The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine on Friday announced the successful placement of 85 graduating students into residency training positions via the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), AUA Match, SF Match, and Military Match.
Flanked by friends and family, the Pritzker Class of 2025 gathered on the University of Chicago campus on Friday for Match Day 2025. At the nationally synchronized moment – 11 a.m. in Chicago – students opened their Match envelopes to learn where they will go for the next stage of their training.
“All of us at Pritzker could not be prouder of this class and how hard they’ve worked to reach this moment,” said Vineet Arora, MD, Dean for Medical Education at Pritzker. “They have supported each other and gone above and beyond to serve the South Side community.
“Personally, I feel a special connection to this class as the first to matriculate after I began in my current role. Seeing their outstanding match outcomes, I am so confident they will have a profound impact on the patients and communities they serve in residency and beyond.”
Pritzker’s match results spanned the nation, including 18 states from coast to coast as well as the District of Columbia, and 20 soon-to-be graduates (24 percent) matched at the University of Chicago Medical Center to continue their training in Hyde Park.
Among the other institutions welcoming the most Pritzker students for residency were the University of California system (8), Harvard University (5), Northwestern University (5), Stanford University (4), and the University of Illinois system (4). In total, Pritzker’s graduates will train across 41 different institutions and hospitals.
Internal Medicine remained the most popular specialty among Pritzker students, representing 26 percent of the Match class. Psychiatry followed at 17 percent of the class, and General Surgery (8 percent), Pediatrics (7 percent), and Orthopaedic Surgery (6 percent) rounded out the top five. Primary care specialties accounted for 36 percent of the Match class while 27 percent of the class will train in surgical subspecialties.
Nationally, this year's Match was the largest in its 73-year history, with more than 47,000 applicants submitting certified rank order lists.
With their next stops determined, Pritzker’s fourth-year students will finish their undergraduate medical training over the next two months and graduate at the Divisional Academic Ceremony on May 23.
