Underrepresented in Medicine Visiting Clerkship Program

Overview

The Underrepresented in Medicine Visiting Clerkship Program (UiMVCP) is co-sponsored by the Pritzker School of Medicine and UChicago Medicine GME Office and participating departments as a supplement to our regular Visiting Clerkship Program. This competitive program provides mentoring, networking, and stipend support for fourth-year medical students who are underrepresented in medicine as defined by the AAMC or are interested in addressing health inequities and social determinants of health.

Successful applicants will advance our diversity and inclusion mission and become prospects for academic training programs for internship and residency at UChicago Medicine. Learn more about our GME programs here. More information about diversity and inclusion at UChicago Medicine is available here:

UChicago Medicine is a nationally recognized academic center offering cutting-edge clinical care to communities on the south side of Chicago as well as to patients referred from regional and national sources. UChicago Medicine is located in one of Chicago’s most diverse communities, Hyde Park.

See below "Available Rotations" for the many departments that participate in this program.

As with all visiting students, eligible participants must be full-time, fourth-year medical students in good standing at LCME-accredited US medical schools; third-year students who have completed their core clerkships in medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and obstetrics & gynecology are also eligible to apply.

UiM Visiting Clerkship Program participants are offered opportunities to network with other University of Chicago faculty, interns, residents, and students.

The program will pay a $2000 stipend to students completing a 4-week rotation and $1000 to students completing a 2-week rotation to support costs associated with participation. Participants receive their stipend after they complete the visiting rotation.
